Respiratory Highly Specialist Pharmacist

Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated prescribing pharmacist to join our respiratory pharmacy team for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

You will work with a team of pharmacists and technicians to provide specialist pharmaceutical care to respiratory pharmacists at North Bristol NHS Trust.

You will review patients and prescribe in outpatient clinics for interstitial lung disease and/or severe asthma, as well as inpatient review of complex patients.

The post holder will work across boundaries to contribute to the development of respiratory services within the BNSSGlocality demonstrating a whole-system patient-focused approach.

Main duties of the job

Work closely with the Respiratory team to develop and deliver tertiary services in accordance with trust policies and procedures, national legislation and standards.

Work as a highly specialist practitioner to deliver the clinical pharmacy aspects of respiratory medicine.

Work across boundaries to contribute to the development of respiratory services within the BNSSGlocality. Demonstrate a whole-system patient-focused approach.

To attend multi-disciplinary team meetings and provide expert advice in pharmaceutical aspects ofpatient care.

  • Work across boundaries to contribute to the development of respiratory services within the BNSSG locality. Demonstrate a whole-system patient-focused approach.
  • Represent specialist pharmaceutical interests in multidisciplinary meetings within the Trust and in the wider local health economy, sharing knowledge and experience with other respiratory pharmacists at a local and national level.
  • Responsible for line managing members of the respiratory pharmacy team.
  • Responsible in conjunction with respiratory pharmacy team for the provision of a highly specialist pharmaceutical service to the respiratory service.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and team meetings for the respiratory service.
  • Provide pharmaceutical expertise to any multidisciplinary working groups considering protocols, policies and guidelines relating to respiratory.
  • Contribute to and participate in the clinical pharmacy service respiratory ward cover, screening and weekend working.
  • Advise on strategies to ensure cost-effective use of resources and product rationalisation and provide reports on the use and cost of respiratory medicines to the medicine divisions as required.
  • Support the NICE/Pharmacoeconomics pharmacy team with horizon scanning and other requirements associated with high cost drugs and specialist commissioning.
  • Work with the Lead Respiratory Pharmacist to support introduction of novel treatments in respiratory.
