Job summary
The South West Plexus Team (SWePT) is a new UK regional specialist centre for the treatment of brachial plexus injuries and complex peripheral nerve injuries. Some patients are seen and treated as emergencies as a result of acute trauma, and others are referred because of chronic problems (e.g. Nerve compressions including TOS) sometimes these can be associated with previous injury. The unit also deals with nerve tumours in the upper and lower limbs. The SWePT team comprises of an interdisciplinary team of Surgeons, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and a CNS. Our vision is to work together to provide evidence based, collaborative and compassionate care within a supportive team environment.
Main duties of the job
The Highly Specialist Physiotherapist working in SWePT will be expected to deliver an enhanced level of practice and clinical leadership within the patients' pathway. They will work with the wider MDT to help to deliver care at a regional level (guiding local services). In addition, they will be expected to actively participate in and lead team service evaluations audits and have many opportunities for research.

- The post holder will work with the whole team to oversee the day-to-day running of the SWePT team.
- They will co-lead the Multidisciplinary (MDT) Brachial Plexus outpatient clinics and will be line managed by the Consultant Physiotherapist in Brachial Plexus Injury.
- They will be expected to undertake the role of a clinical leader to plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate the physiotherapy service for Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve injuries.
- They will support the MDT in the delivery of the services including management of referrals, participation in multi-disciplinary team clinics, and making onwards referrals when required.
- Work as an autonomous, highly skilled clinician, to provide a specialised service of physiotherapy including assessment, treatment, advice and education for patients, carers/families and staff within the Brachial Plexus Injury, Thoracic Outlet and Peripheral Nerve Injury outpatient clinics.
- As the Physiotherapy Lead within the MDT, they will be expected to provide specialist advice to other professionals on holistic management strategies and work closely with the Consultants and the local and regional MDT to formulate appropriate management plans for patients.
- Provide appropriate training and education to other Health care professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, hand therapists and students. To be an expert resource within the SWePT service for this specialist patient group.
- To work with and deputise for the Consultant Physiotherapist as appropriate.

- HCPC registered Physiotherapist
- Evidence of post graduate training & education in neuro-musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neuro-disability, upper limb disorders and/or peripheral nerve injury (including hand therapy or thoracic outlet syndrome).
Desirable
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and relevant Clinical Interest Group.
- Completed or working towards MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
