Job summary

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to join our Stroke Neuropsychology service. Our service is part of the wider Neuropsychology Department at Southmead Hospital and works in collaboration with Sirona Healthcare, North Bristol Trust and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston to offer both inpatient and community specialist stroke neurorehabilitation.

Applicants should have at least an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in Psychology, excellent written and oral communication skills, experience of administering psychometric tests and excellent computer literacy skills.

As the role involves travel across the BNSSG area, you will need access to your own transport.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support to the Clinical Neuropsychologist and Clinical Psychologists, undertaking a range of assessments, delivering prescribed rehabilitation input and administrative tasks to ensure that the Clinical Neuropsychologist and Clinical Psychologists time and skills are used optimally.

Training will be provided for the post-holder to develop the knowledge and skills required.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will provide technical and clinical support for the Clinical Neuropsychologists and Clinical Psychologists as follows:

The post holder will administer and score psychometric tests with patients, as directed by the clinical neuropsychologist, and provide behavioural observations as appropriate.

  • The postholder will provide rehabilitation to patients as directed by the clinical neuropsychologist.

The post holder will maintain records in accordance with NBT, Sirona and professional standards and practices.

The post holder will perform administrative tasks as required.

The post holder will work within the schedules imposed by the Stroke Neuropsychology Lead.

The post holder will comment as relevant on matters related to service delivery within their range of duties, raising issues requiring attention to their supervisor and /or the Stroke Neuropsychology Lead.

The post holder will undertake an agreed professional development plan to advance competencies and knowledge in the clinical work and professional expertise. This is established and monitored through programme of performance review.

The post holder will undertake regular supervision with a Clinical Psychologist / Clinical Neuropsychologist in line with explicit supervision arrangements.

The post holder will at all times observe the service, professional, and ethical guidelines, and stated good practise guidelines for psychologists, as set out by the BPS.
