Job summary

If you're methodical and conscientious with meticulous attention to detail, join our friendly and inclusive stores team supporting the delivery of surgical equipment to Theatres.

You will be primarily based in the storerooms adjacent to theatres, providing instrument delivery across multiple floors and locations within the Southmead Hospital precinct. Demonstrable experience in a warehouse or stores role with strong logistical skills will be essential as you will play a key role in the efficient running of the service through accurate stock management and quality control of sterile equipment. The ability to meet the physical demands of the job will be crucial for undertaking the necessary manual handling and transportation of stock.

You should demonstrate refined communication and the ability to receive complex information accurately as you liaise with theatre and medical teams regarding equipment requests and instrument delivery.

You will maintain a robust sterile store which will include receipt and distribution duties, pick & pack orders, replenishment, stocktaking and cleaning of all stores.

Working Pattern: Monday - Sunday on a rolling rota basis,variable shifts including nights

Main duties of the job

In this role you will:

  • Take responsibility for ordering sets of instruments from our Sterile Services Department and ensuring they get to the required theatre
  • Use the scanning and tracking systems to ensure that sets are in the right place to prevent delays to planned surgeries.
  • Ensure storerooms are kept tidy and that stock is rotated in accordance to best practice procedures
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff to ensure same page working
  • Ability to work on own initiative within agreed parameters

Working across multiple floors and relevant storerooms Responsible for the day to day running of the Theatre Stores and for the prompt and accurate processing of deliveries. Accurately receiving, inspecting, and processing incoming sterile equipment, ensuring adherence to quality and sterility standards. Ensures that storage requirements and sterility of instruments are maintained. Clarifies delivery queries with SSD as necessary. Reports any inaccuracies and discrepancies to the SSD Team. Record all deliveries using the Fingerprint tracking System accurately and promptly to ensure tracking system has latest information of stock in system. Ensuring correct placement of inventory within the stores layout. Ensures that all paperwork is correctly and promptly processed. Picking sterile instrument sets and single items according to theatres requests. Delivering sterile equipment to theatres efficiently and accurately. Assisting with stock takes and audits as required. Carries out expiry date checks and rotation of sets within the Theatre Stores to prevent wastage and maintain integrity of theatre instruments. Cleaning of storage racking and visual inspection of instrument sets looking for defects Undertake training relevant to personal and organisational needs. Actively involved in the training of staff in Stores procedures in accordance with training standards appropriate to their level of duties. Ensures that the security of the Stores area is maintained at all times and reports any breaches to the Theatre ancillary support manager. Ensuring storerooms are always kept clean and tidy, following mandated cleaning processes. Answering the telephone and taking accurate notes Liaise effectively with sterile Services Department, theatre staff and external suppliers regarding stock levels, requests and discrepancies. Pulling back all unused trays of instruments from outside theatres and ensuring they are returned to the correct level and storeroom. Maintaining a safe working environment for self and others.
