Job summary
The prosthetics team at Bristol Centre for Enablement are looking to recruit a Counsellor/Clinical Psychologist to work within their well established multidisciplinary team, offering rehabilitation to individuals who have undergone amputation or who have congenital limb difference. The role involves leading and developing the counselling/psychology aspect of the service whilst working closely with the practising Clinical Psychologist in post.
In exchange for your enthusiasm and clinical skills, we can provide a supportive and welcoming multidisciplinary team to develop your knowledge in amputee rehabilitation.
The post is banded at AFC band 6/7 depending on experience.
Main duties of the job
To provide and develop the range of specialist counselling to the multi-professional prosthetics team at North Bristol NHS Trust.
This will involve working autonomously within professional guidelines with individual patients and their families at any point during their progression from the potential decision to amputate, right through amputation, recovery and rehabilitation.
The Bristol Centre for Enablement is one of nine national treatment centres for provision of prosthetic care to war veterans and a key element is for the post-holder to liaise with patients, carers and a wide range of health care professionals and agencies across the catchment area of the service.

- Professional qualification to work as a Practitioner Psychologist or Counsellor (to diploma level or above) as recognised by the Health and Care Professions Council
- Significant and relevant post qualification experience of psychological interventions (particularly trauma, loss, bereavement and adjustment)
- Direct clinical experience in working with patients with long term conditions such as pain, fatigue, deficits of cognition and mobility
- Knowledge of issues associated with disability
- Knowledge of specialist psychological interventions relevant to this client group
