SENIOR FOOT & ANKLE FELLOWSHIP

(FULL TIME)

We wish to appoint a Senior Fellow in Foot and Ankle Surgery to commence in February 2026. This post is based in the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital which opened in May 2014. The post holder will be required to work flexibly within the department.

The post holder will be involved in a busy foot and ankle service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post holder will be responsible to Mr Harries, Mr Hepple, Mr Dahill & Mr Robinson, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons. They will be expected to have some previous experience in foot and ankle surgery. They will be expected to participate in the ongoing research and audit programmes of the department. They should be at the stage of a senior trainee - post exam - or immediate post CSST.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day medical and surgical care of orthopaedic day case and inpatients and will have opportunity to assist in theatres for both routine and specialist orthopaedic cases. Successful candidates will be expected to get involved in and contribute towards the department audit programme and on-going research programmes.

As part of a consultant led team you will see a wide range of cases.

About us

Orthopaedic services including elective procedures are provided at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) at the Brunel Building, Southmead Hospital. The AOC provides the main elective orthopaedic service for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire and also hosts inpatient surgery for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Healthcare Trust. Five theatres run all days 5 days a week with 28 consultants operating here. The local catchment population is approximately 500,000 but specialist services are also offered more widely across the region. The foot and ankle service covers all aspects of foot and ankle care and accepts tertiary referrals from a wide region.

Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. If in a training post this post is recognised for off programme training. Successful candidates will undergo training, appraisal and assessment. It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent.
