Job summary

North Bristol NHS Trust is seeking an Apprentice Clinical Simulation Technician to join our innovative SimSpace team within the Postgraduate Medical Education department. This exciting role offers the opportunity to support cutting-edge simulation-based education for medical staff and allied health professionals.

To be eligible for this Level 3 Education Technician Assistant (Simulation Based Technician) apprenticeship you must:

- be over the age of 16- have lived in the UK/EEA for the past 3 years- have the right to work and reside in the UK- not hold the same or equivalent qualification- hold GCSE Maths and English at a mimum of Grade C/4 or Level 2 Functional Skills, and be able to evidence the certificates before the role is offered

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in simulation sessions and courses:
    • Set up scenarios using high-fidelity mannequins and equipment
    • Operate simulators during training sessions
    • Potentially act in scenarios if required
  • Equipment management and maintenance:
    • Assist in maintaining all simulation-related equipment
    • Set up and take down equipment for teaching sessions
    • Operate audio-visual equipment and video recording systems
    • Diagnose minor faults and recommend solutions for equipment performance
  • Resource management:
    • Help order consumables and training equipment
    • Monitor and replenish training course scenario boxes, medical and resuscitation trolleys
    • Manage a 'training equipment loan service' across the trust
  • Technical support and training:
    • Provide advice and training on simulation equipment use to internal and external users
    • Assist in designing and adapting equipment for simulations and skills training
  • Administrative duties:
    • Support course booking and record-keeping
    • Produce documents and resources for simulation activities
    • Manage medical gas supplies within Trust policies
  • Customer service:
    • Provide excellent service during phone, face-to-face, and digital communications
    • Liaise with course directors, team members, and faculty
  • Apprenticeship responsibilities:
    • Attend sessions with the training provider as required
    • Complete work in accordance with the learning plan to ensure timely apprenticeship completion

Some of the outcomes include:

  • How to collate data, documentation and resources such as room usage, student footfall, inventories of equipment or experimental data in order to support and enhance teaching, learning or research activity.
  • How to facilitate the delivery of training sessions using simulated practice and learning such as clinical skills scenarios
  • Undertake the scenario coding (programming) and subsequent operation of human patient simulators, part task trainers and other modes of simulation.
  • Supporting academics, educators and researchers by identifying problems (with equipment, procedures, processes, experiments, creative activities) and offering design solutions (modifications)
  • The underpinning principles of the role of simulation, how to design clinical skills training programmes including programme aims, learning outcomes, teaching plans, and how learning outcomes link to assessment.
  • How to interpret learning outcomes and their relevance to programming and running of scenarios using various modes of simulation
