Job summary

Job Title: Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner - Surgical Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) and Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU)

We are excited to announce the opportunity for a Trainee ACP to join our Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU).

This is a Band 7 Training post, moving to Band 8A after full completion of academic and clinical elements (happy to hear from fully qualified surgical ACP's)

The successful candidate will join and work alongside the relevant surgical teams to gain the necessary clinical experience that will allow safe, autonomous evidenced based practice when fully qualified and accredited. The Trainee will be supported in completing the ACP accredited programme at MSc Level 7 at the local HEI, on a 3 year apprenticeship. This will include 20% off the job time along with an engaged Consultant Clinical Education Supervisor.

During the 3 year training post, the t-AP will undertake rotations into relevant specialties to gain experience, including but not limited to colorectal, Upper GI, Urology.

Job Type: Full-time (20% off the Job time allocated)

Salary: Band 7-8a depending on qualifications and experience (this is band 7 training post, moving to band 8a once fully qualified).

Main duties of the job

Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments for patients scheduled for same-day surgical procedures, alongside reviewing a range of surgical presentations and generating a differential diagnosis.

Patient Care and Management: Provide high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative period, including preoperative preparation, and postoperative monitoring, decision making, care plan generation, and response to post operative complications in the emergency setting.

Training and Education: Participate in a structured training program.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and ensure safe and efficient care delivery. Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and workflow.

Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the surgical same day emergency care unit. Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices, contributing to the research element of surgical practice within the team.
