Job summary
The Neuropathology Department at Southmead Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and organised AfC Band 4 Medical Secretary.
You will have a friendly, adaptable and proactive approach to your work. You will need to be highly motivated, dedicated and flexible.
You will not only possess excellent secretarial and administrative skills, but also be able to manage your own time and workload, have a strong sense of teamwork and have excellent communication skills. You should be able to work flexibly and have excellent strategies for managing what can sometimes be a pressured environment.
You will report to the Laboratory Manager alongside one other secretary.

The role is full time and based in the Pathology Sciences Buildings in Southmead Hospital.
Main duties of the job

In this vital role you will:
- Act as a point-of-contact for queries from clinical and non-clinical staff
- Liaise via telephone and email with other clinical/clerical teams to action any queries
- Return calls promptly and keep callers updated with information in an effective and efficient way
- Escalate queries and general issues to the lab manager or relevant clinical staff as appropriate
- Ensure all authorised neuropathology reports are saved as pdf's and emailed to the correct persons
- Dispatch blocks and slides to relevant persons and/or hospitals as required
- Check the theatre list and add information to a spreadsheet to inform the duty consultant and lab staff
- Collate genetic reports and add to the inhouse LIMS system
- Invoice service users for autopsy, histology, muscle, nerve and private patients
- Collate the MDT lists and liaise with consultants to determine who should be discussed
- Book meetings as necessary
- Receive incoming blocks and slides and book in as appropriate
- Ad hoc duties as necessary
