North Bristol NHS Trust has the largest urology service in the country. You will be working in a cohesive team of Uro-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialists as an important and highly valued member of the Urology Multidisciplinary Cancer Team.
This job offers a fantastic opportunity for a nurse wishing to develop in a specialist role delivering high quality care and support to people with prostate cancer and their families. This includes extending and embedding work already undertaken to improve care for urology cancer patients as part of our extensive follow-up programme for patients living with and beyond cancer.
Whilst much of the work will focus on patients with specific urological cancer (rotational between kidney, prostate and bladder cancer). To embed and learn each subspecialty this post will rotate initially every 6 months averagely. This will allow the post holder to gain knowledge and experience on each of the individual cancer sites within urology. You will remain part of the team of Uro-Oncology cancer nurse specialists. This will require involvement with people with any urological cancer.
Main duties of the job
Communication
To provide specialist nursing advice underpinned by theory and experience to support patients and their families/carers
To act as a specialist practitioner, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care in collaboration with senior colleagues achieved through systematic and holistic assessment, personalised care planning and onwards referral and discharge to primary care team
To provide patients and staff with specialist advice to manage complex symptoms

- Managing a deteriorating patient condition that may demand frequent re-assessment/review

- Providing support for team members facing challenging patient care issues
