Job summary

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our Endoscopy team.

We are looking for a hardworking experienced nurse to work as part of a specialist and devoted team within Endoscopy and are passionate about giving patients the best possible care.

The Endoscopy department within Southmead Hospital is a fast paced and varied environment, full of passionate and highly skilled nurses.

The department has achieved JAG accreditation and runs a busy service from 4 dedicated procedure rooms. We undertake over 11,000 endoscopys each year and have an expanding service which includes growth in exciting areas of capsule endoscopy, enteroscopy, bowel screening, GI endoscopy, respiratory, trans-nasal endoscopy and GI Pre-assessment clinics.

Unfortunately, this post is not suitable for a newly qualified nurse due to the level of experience and skills required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Take responsibility for the particular area allocated to them on the work plan rota - admission, care of the patient during procedure, assisting the Endoscopist, recovery and discharge.
  • Work as a member of the Endoscopy Team and is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
  • Work in the Endoscopy environment caring for patients undergoing all types of Endoscopy procedures both routine and emergency for inpatients and outpatients. Capsule endoscopy. Pre-assessment clinics for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
  • Take personal responsibility for ensuring Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and be familiar with advisory guidelines, as laid down by the BSG and NMC.
  • Supervise junior staff and to teach qualified staff, student nurses and Healthcare Assistants.
  • Commit to the on-call Gastric bleed rota

  • Take personal responsibility for the care of patients in a defined clinical area with the support of junior staff.
