Physiotherapy Assistant
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Physiotherapy Team as an Assistant to the Physiotherapy staff at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. This is a permanent full-time position with set clinical hours - 37.5 h pw during weekdays.
- The role involves mainly indirect patient related duties - general physiotherapy, department housekeeping and admin tasks; most of the post will be based in the hydrotherapy pool area. Duties here include pool water testing, cleaning equipment, booking patient appointments, ensuring patient safety, patient care before and after their hydrotherapy treatment, where required.
- There will be some limited direct patient related duties under direct or indirect supervision of a registered physiotherapist, treating patients in hydrotherapy, implementing noncomplex, protocol led physical treatment sessions with guidance from a registered physiotherapist.

We are looking for a candidate who can show initiative and is compassionate, well organised, professional and efficient, with good communication skills alongside competency with IT.Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with previous experience of working in healthcare and NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
Non-Clinical (the majority of the role)
Preparing the pool area before the session and clearing away equipment after the session.
Pool water testing
Cleaning of equipment
Booking patient appointments
- In the Out-Patient Physiotherapy Area
A large part of the role also comprises of general physiotherapy department housekeeping and admin tasks, ordering and organising stock, checking the emergency trolley.
Clinical
Ensure patient safety in the hydrotherapy area and where required:
- Assisting patients undress and dress before/after their hydrotherapy treatment
- Assisting patients mobilising to and from the pool
- Assisting patients getting into / out of the pool and safe use of the pool hoist
- Treating patients in hydrotherapy, implementing noncomplex, protocol led physical treatment sessions with guidance from a registered physiotherapist.

- To accurately and timely complete all patient physiotherapy records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards of practice.
- To participate in the staff appraisal scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with the agreed objectives and personal development programme to meet set knowledge and competencies, plus service needs.
