Job summary
Applications are invited for a 12-month locum Consultant Cardiologist, with interests in Complex Devices/Heart Failure to join the existing ten Cardiologists at North Bristol NHS Trust. This post is a key appointment for the delivery of complex device services in the Cardiology Specialty at North Bristol NHS Trust and will complement the significant recent expansion of the North Bristol NHS Trust Heart Failure Service.
Main duties of the job
Applications are welcomed from an enthusiastic and dynamic Cardiologist with sub-specialty interest in Complex Device implantation/Heart Failure to develop services locally. The post-holder will undertake ward work, taking part in the management of acute cardiac admissions, out-patient clinics and pacing lab sessions. There will be a requirement for some flexibility in working pattern. The Cardiology on-call rota is 1:10 with no commitment to the GIM take.
About us
Additional staff within the Specialty include a Specialist Registrar, three Clinical Fellows, two IMT doctors, two F2 doctors and three F1 doctors who support the Cardiology Ward of 33 beds including eight high dependency Cardiac Care Unit beds. We anticipate an increased demand for cardiac resynchronisation and ICD devices as part of the expanded Heart Failure Service.
The Cardiology Department has a fully equipped Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory carrying out diagnostic coronary angiography, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, CRT-D/CRT-P, brady-pacing and ICD's with an active plan to develop the pacing room into a fully functioning Cath Lab.
Experience in subcutaneous ICD implantation, His-bundle and LBBB pacing would be supported.
The NBT Cardiology team value team working, peer support and training with specialty meetings held regularly.

- Maintain full registration with the GMC;
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Must have CCT in Cardiology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of the appointment
Desirable
- Higher Academic Qualification (eg, MD or MS)
Training and Experience
Essential
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices
- Minimum of 10 years postgraduate experience, including higher surgical/medical training
- 5 years as an SpR in an approved training post - part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential
- Subspecialty accreditation in Interventional Cardiology
Desirable
- Interventional Fellowship
- Proven expertise in other Cardiology sub-specialties
- BSE accreditation

- Evidence of recent CME/reasonable training progression at this stage of career
