Join us in creating a sustainable future. We are seeking a highly motivated Energy Officer to join the Strategic Estate Development and Sustainable Health Team at North Bristol NHS Trust. You will have plenty of opportunity to make a big difference to people's lives and be part of a dynamic team both within the Trust and with our partners in the Integrated Care System to meet our shared goal of net zero carbon (NZC) by 2030.

In this role you will be responsible for monitoring and assisting in delivering energy savings in line with the NBT decarbonisation and energy efficiency strategy. You will have the opportunity to propose and be involved with projects to achieve savings through energy efficiency measures. You'll get to work on projects involving the private finance initiative hospital (Brunel), new construction projects and refurbishments.

You will work closely with the Carbon and Energy Manager as well as with staff within the Estate Team, professional advisors and sub-contractors and in partnership with colleagues in our Integrated Care System.

Main duties of the job

  • Supporting the Carbon and Energy Manager with the delivery of NZC and energy efficiency projects.
  • Investigating/auditing building energy efficiency and NZC opportunities.
  • Researching solutions and innovations in energy efficiency and NZC.
  • Working with Estate Team colleagues to improve the energy efficiency and the decarbonisation of our existing buildings.
  • Assisting in Trust compliance with relevant legislative obligations.
  • Recording and reporting of energy data including Electrical, Gas, Water and Heat meter reads.

The ideal candidate will have a degree, equivalent education or experience in an appropriate field, and 2+ years' experience in a building engineering or building energy saving role.

You may already be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge, involvement or implementation of projects in carbon and energy saving disciplines. A basic understanding of BMS and the importance of proper commissioning would be beneficial.

You will be prepared to present and report to the Carbon and Energy Manager on energy and utilities data. You will also have negotiation and interpersonal skills, be a self-starter with a high level of self-motivation.

  • Contribute to energy efficiency and carbon reduction business cases.
  • Work in collaboration with the Capital Projects team to deliver energy and carbon reduction projects / programmes across the PFI and Retained Estate.
  • Support the Trusts Sustainability team in the delivery of wider carbon reduction activity in line with the Trust and Integrated Care Systems Green Plan and Trust documents including the Sustainable Development Policy, Sustainable Development Management Plan and Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
  • Support the Carbon and Energy Manager with the preparation of a value focused metering strategy and implement smart data collection and analytics process to support the energy and carbon reduction strategy.
  • Support the Trust to ensure it is legally compliant with all energy and carbon related legislative obligations including the Environmental Permitting Regulations, EU Emissions Trading Scheme, Heat Network Regulations, Display Energy Certificates and Energy Performance Certificates.
  • Support with the compilation of the NHS Estates ERIC returns related to energy and utilities.
  • Assist with energy efficiency audits across the estate and identify improvement opportunities on a rolling programme.
