Job summary
The skin cancer CNS support coordinator will be part of the wider skin cancer service team, working closely with skin cancer clinicians, the skin cancer clinical nurse specialists, Cancer Support workers, diagnostic team, cancer services, psychology, medical secretaries and allied health care professionals both within and outside of the trust, to ensure appropriate and time critical management of patient information and co-ordination of patient results.
The post holder will play a pivotal role in facilitating the smooth running of the patient journey through the skin cancer pathway, towards treatment and beyond. The coordinator will work closely with the skin cancer nursing team to ensure that a coordinated timely and streamlined service is maintained, and improved on, following a diagnosis of skin cancer. This will include coordinating and tracking appointments and scans including MRI, CT, P.E.T and ultrasound scans along with forthcoming dates for treatment and subsequent results from these investigations.
Bringing together in-depth knowledge on the skin cancer pathway, NHS IT systems, along with investigation appointments and results, this ensures that patient care can then be co-ordinated, by collaboratively working alongside the clinicians, nurses, and wider skin cancer team to ensure that the right treatment is undertaken at the right time.
Main duties of the job
- Coordinate the smooth running of the high-risk skin cancer patient journey by ensuring that coordinated and streamlined clinical and administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.
- Track all high-risk skin cancer patients reviewed at the weekly specialist skin cancer multidisciplinary team meeting, to ensure that all appointments investigations and results are organised and actioned on in a timely manner.
- Being able to recognise and appropriately highlighting missing or abnormal information and results.
- As a specialist MDT this involves liaising with skin cancer teams around the cancer network.
- Develop excellent working relationships with departments which deliver diagnostic services including radiology and pathology to coordinate the patients diagnostic journey.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the limits of personal practice and knowledge and understand when to seek appropriate advice.
- Understand that there will be exposure to distressing situations and know when to seek appropriate support.

The skin cancer team work with the plastic surgery and dermatology teams. This role will be based at Southmead Hospital, and will involve working alongside the skin cancer nurses, to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. This frequently involves not only liaising with teams at North Bristol Trust but as we are the regional centre, it also involves frequent contact with other teams across our caner Network across the South West.
