Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our established Soft tissue sarcoma service at NBT as a Macmillan funded professional. This is a band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist development role, progression to band 7 is dependent upon achievement of clinical and professional competencies. Depending on experience a band 7 may be considered at appointment.
The post holder will be an important member of the Sarcoma CNS team and Sarcoma MDT, and will collaborate with local and regional healthcare providers to provide highly developed specialist nursing advice and support to patients (in-patient and out-patient) and their carers/families throughout their sarcoma pathway.
The role will improve quality of care and patient experience by ensuring patient centred, personalised care is delivered across all health and care settings.
The Sarcoma CNS will utilise skills of leadership, advanced clinical expertise, specialist education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff. They will provide highly complex advice, support and information from referral, through investigation, diagnosis, treatment and follow up.
They will work closely with the MDT in hospital and the community to ensure a coordinated quality service and will be actively involved in education, audit and research.
Central to the CNS role is advocating for patients throughout their sarcoma pathway.
Main duties of the job
- To plan, develop, improve and promote the Bristol sarcoma service, enabling delivery of individualised, evidence based, high quality, cost effective, personalised care across the region to obtain the best possible clinical outcomes and patient experience.
- Transcribe radiology requests on ICE following successful completion of the IR(M)E training course
- To be a patients advocate
- To expertly deliver highly complex and sensitive information to patients and relatives
- To provide specialist support and advice in clinical areas, wards and outpatients.
- Triaging of new suspected sarcoma referrals to the sarcoma service
- Follow up of Sarcoma patients to assess for signs of recurrent and metastatic disease.
- Provide clinical leadership and act as a "key worker" for everyone living with sarcoma in their caseload.
- To develop a scope of practice that includes clinical triage, clinical assessment, and reasoning to enable nurse led autonomous practice.
