Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Medicine division on Gate 28A, Respiratory Medicine Ward .
This is an exciting front of house role, by which the post holders will be required to work closely with their clinical colleagues, to aid in maintaining flow of patients throughout the hospital, and to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care. You will act as first point of contact for patients and carers visiting.
We are offering full and/or part time hours, working 2-4 shifts per week in the monday to saturday period, (0800-1730 ) and will include bank holiday working. This is to provide a front of house service cover for the week. The rota for these shifts are subject to change with advanced notice, to cover sickness/absence.
Eventually the post may result in 7 day working
Main duties of the job

- Organising, filing and tracing patient notes
- Preparing admission folders for patients
- Sending notes to coding
- Admitting, transferring, and discharging patients using the computer systems
- Booking transport for patients and contributing to the patient discharge planning process
- Ordering and maintaining the stock of stationary and other consumables
- Answering telephone and face to face queries from patients, clinicians and other members of staff
- Carry out administrative and clerical duties as requested by the ward manager

Gate 28A is a very busy ward environment - admitting, discharging, and transferring patients in a timely manner is vital to keep the unit running smoothly.
The role requires someone who has a great level of attention, good organisational skills, and the ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations. Successful candidates will need to be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure, work well as part of a team and have great communication skills.
The post holder will be required to:
Maintain patients records ensuring filing is completed in a timely way and notes are available for clinical staff, trace patients notes and prepare admission folders as required. Arrange appointments, request transport and contribute to the patient discharge planning process, maintaining electronic patient records and up to date bed state. Answer the telephone and with the assistance of nursing staff answer requests for information. Maintain stocks of stationery, keep reception desk and notice boards tidy. Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives through verbal/written communication, participating at ward meetings and maintaining confidentiality of information at all times. Carry out other specific administrative/clerical and housekeeping duties as requested by the ward manager. Contribute to maintaining the safety and security of patients and their belongings and to maintaining the safety and security of the environment. Maintain personal standards of health, safety and security and understand own responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act. Participate in relevant training as identified through individual performance review. Comply with the Data Protection Act. Adhere to Trust/Directorate/Departmental policies
