Job summary

Are you looking to start a new career in pharmacy? This progressional post is the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and work to support the pharmacy service at Southmead Hospital. Under the guidance of the Patient Services Leadership team you will offer operational support to the dispensary, clinical pharmacy and distribution teams.

Main duties of the job

Dispensary & Reception Duties

Receipt of prescriptions and drug requests from patients and staff.

Selling over the counter medicines to staff and members of the public.

Handling cash transactions including NHS prescription charges.

Accurate and timely dispensing prescriptions, including controlled drugs.

Generation of labels and booking out of medicines using pharmacy stock control system.

Final accuracy checking of controlled drug stock requisitions.

Replenish the stocks of dispensing sundries (bottles, cartons etc.).

Deals with enquiries from wards, departments and patients.

Receiving requests and handing out medications to patients and members of staff.

All activity undertaken within NBT Pharmacy is compliant with Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP 2013/C 343/01) and all relevant departmental procedures.

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English, at Grade C or above
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills
  • Basic IT competencies/qualifications
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Ability to work flexibly under pressure and on own initiative
  • Methodical, tidy worker
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Willing to be trained and instructed
