Regional Milk Bank Pasteuriser (Band 2)

Job summary

The post holder will work as an integral part of the Milk Bank team. He/she will undertake routine pasteurisation of breast milk for the Regional Milk Bank, which supplies donor breast milk to the neonatal units of the South West Region.

Main duties of the job

The main elements of the role include receiving and sorting donor breast milk, ensuring pasteurisation is carried out safely and to the expected quality standards, sending samples to the laboratory for checking, completing administrative tasks and assisting in distribution of donor breast milk to the South West Region.

  • Work well with Milk Bank Technician with frequent communication around work progress and tasks.
  • Use tact when interacting with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Record information and update records as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of donor information

  • Read and use the temperature monitoring system.
  • Exercise judgement in personal decision making, e.g. identifying when to report a problem.

Physical and Patient Care Skills

  • Undertake pasteurisation of donor breast milk with high diligence and care.

Planning and Organisational Skills

  • Organise own day to day work activities.
  • Respond to requests and instructions.

Responsibility for Policies

  • Follow clear and detailed standard operating policies and procedures for the work area.
  • Comment on any proposed changes.
  • Participate in surveys and audits as required.
