Job summary

Band 8a Clinical Psychologist/ Neuropsychologist 0.6 WTE

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and driven individual with experience of working with adults with acquired brain injury. The post is within the Head Injury Therapy Unit which is a well-established community-based brain injury multi-disciplinary neuorehabilitation team.

The post-holder will also be a member of the Department of Neuropsychology of North Bristol NHS Trust at Southmead Hospital. The wider department offers Clinical Neuropsychology services along the entire pathway of care from acute neurosciences through to the community.

It is essential that you hold a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology to Masters or Doctoral level as recognised by the British Psychological Society and/or HCPC. It is expected that you will have completed or enrolled on the knowledge dimension of the qualification in clinical neuropsychology.

You will be expected to travel regularly throughout the locality of the team and therefore access to transport is essential.

Main duties of the job

This role requires clinical and professional expertise in order that those with neuropsychology needs resulting from an acquired brain injury benefit from a well-coordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective neuropsychology service as part of their multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation program.

Your main duties will include:

  • Undertaking the role of a clinical neuropsychologist / highly specialised clinical psychologist to support the Clinical Lead to plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate the neuropsychology service for patients at the Head Injury Therapy Unit.
  • Working as an autonomous highly skilled practitioner to provide specialised neuropsychological assessment, treatment, advise and education for patients with acquired brain injury, carers/ families, and other agencies as appropriate.
  • Working in conjunction with the Clinical Lead, taking a lead role in service development and quality improvement projects relevant to this post and to contribute to research as relevant.

Contributing towards continuing professional development, training, advising, and supporting the multi-disciplinary team, as appropriate.

  • The post holder will provide supervision to assistant psychologists and Band 7 Clinical Psychologist.
  • The post holder will work closely with the HITU Clinical Lead to develop new and maintain effective approaches to NBTs agenda of improving the patient experience. They will keep up to date with the evidence base for brain injury rehabilitation, advise the Clinical Lead on potential new initiative and treatment approaches, and contribute to in-house multidisciplinary training.

Operational Management

  • As a more senior member of the team, the post holder will be expected to contribute to the supervision of more junior staff and to take a significant role in the organisation and management of the service delivered.
