Applications are invited from an enthusiastic and well-motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
The Immunology and Immunogenetics department at North Bristol NHS Trust is housed in a modern, purpose built laboratory and provides a diagnostic service for the local community and a referral service throughout the UK. The department has four sections Autoimmunity and Allergy, Immunohaematology for leukaemia and lymphoma diagnosis , Immunochemistry and Immunogenetics and Histocompatability (H and I) for Renal Crossmatch and HLA typing. A wide range of laboratory techniques are used for example; flow cytometry, PCR, electrophoresis, ELISA and Immunofluorescent and Immunoblot methods.
The successful candidate will be joining a busyand friendly team who will rotate through all sections and will have the opportunity to participate in the H and I on call service forthe renal transplant team on completion of required training.
The department is UKAS accredited and is IBMS approved for training Biomedical Scientists.
Main duties of the job
- To assist in the supervision, training and teaching of trainee biomedical scientists, newly qualified staff, MLAs, medical staff and other healthcare professionals as required.
- To receive and process samples submitted to the Department in accordance with laboratory policies and protocols.
- To interpret and act upon results in accordance with laboratory policies.
- Communicate with clinicians, laboratory staff from North Bristol Trust and other NHS organisations regarding samples required, appropriateness of tests and provision of results.
- To maintain a high level of professional competence in the performance of all tests and investigations carried out in each section.
- Contribute to the development of services provided to meet the requirementsof users.

To assist in laboratory development projects as required.
To be competent in the use of laboratory computer systems.
