A opportunity has arisen for a Clinical /Counselling Psychologist looking for experience within the North Bristol Trust, to join a team of Clinical Health Psychologists working in the Anaesthesia, Surgery, Critical Care and Renal division. The main area of work will be 3 days with the bariatric surgery team, but there is potential to make this a full time post by combining it with other vacant posts within the ASCR directorate. . This post is particularly suited to a recently qualified psychologist whose aim, at this stage of their career, is to further strengthen their clinical skills and breadth of experience in health psychology settings.
The post holder will be one of 4 psychologists dedicated to the bariatric surgery and weight management MDT which is recognised as a leading obesity management centre by the European association for the Study of Obesity (EASO). Southmead Hospital is a major centre for acute care in the Southwest of England and one of the most advanced in Europe, employing approximately 65 psychologists. We enjoy close links with the two universities in Bristol and in Bath including teaching and placements for local post-graduate training schemes in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Counselling Psychology and Neuropsychology. BABCP supervision is available for those aiming to progress to accreditation.
Main duties of the job
The Post Holder will provide specialist professional input within bariatric surgery and weight management. The post holder may provide psychological expertise for the care of people with obesity, at any stage of their journey within the weight management and bariatric surgical service. The scope can extend to the support of staff and relatives, the promotion of psychologically informed and sophisticated systems of care and service development.

- Provide and co-ordinate psychological care for patients, working alongside other health professionals, as appropriate.
- Take responsibility for ensuring the quality and safety of psychological care, in all aspects of work.
