Job summary
We are looking for a skilled and compassionate band 8a clinical/counselling psychologist to join our Staff Psychology Team at North Bristol NHS Trust. The post-holder will work as part of an established, award-winning team providing psychologically-informed support to enhance the wellbeing of our colleagues and foster a culture of care and compassion within teams and across our organisation. We would also welcome applications from those in band 7 roles as a preceptorship, or those in their final year of Doctoral training.

Main duties of the job
Our colleagues are at the heart of the provision of safe and compassionate health care, and its essential that staff feel valued, connected, and supported in order to stay well and enjoy their work.
The Staff Wellbeing Psychology Team provides a range of responsive and well as pro-active support to staff. The service has a particular ethos in supporting relational and team wellbeing, recognising that wellbeing and resilience are often more helpfully seen as being fostered by connections between us, not just within us. The service values innovation, co-developing interventions in response to challenges and needs of our colleagues working in different contexts.
The service provides bespoke support and consultation to teams, workshops on a range of themes (e.g. psychological safety, coping with challenging circumstances, peer-to-peer hot debriefing), facilitated supervision groups, specific support for managers and leaders, and specialist 1:1 psychological support for work-based issues (including trauma focused work) as well as signposting to counselling services (e.g. through the external Employee Assistant Programme).T he service has been integral to supporting staff during the COVID pandemic and as part of the next phase, working closely with colleagues across the trust including within Learning and Development, Organisational Development, People & HR.
About us
The post holder will be managed and supported by the Lead for Staff Wellbeing Psychology and the NBT Trust Advisor for Psychology and the work closely with other psychologists doctors, and HR colleagues within the broader Staff Wellbeing service.
North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the South West region and one of the largest trusts in the country. Last year the Trust treated over 100,000 inpatients, over 35,000 outpatients, 90,000 emergency department patients and helped deliver over 6,000 babies. - To provide compassionate, focused interventions on an individual and team basis to enhance the culture of care for staff at North Bristol NHS Trust. This may include workshops, training, reflective groups, 1:1 sessions, and other direct and indirect interventions as agreed with the Staff Psychology Team.
- To work alongside more senior psychologists within the team to develop and deliver bespoke team interventions, (e.g. to foster psychological safety and compassion in teams) supporting trauma-informed care for staff with work-based trauma or at risk of this
- To routinely evaluate clinical work using quantitative and qualitative measures, and to be able to present this as needed to demonstrate the impact of the interventions and to share learnings and good practice within and outside of the Trust, e.g. at meetings and conferences (e.g. for the activity planning, annual report).
- To attend and actively participate in professional meetings, supervision, and training, and to keep the Staff Wellbeing Psychology lead and team updated with key issues, updates, developments, and risks relating to the psychological health of staff and the organisation.
- To develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders within Staff Wellbeing, HR, People & Transformation, Occupational Health, as well as relevant external organisations
These duties and responsibilities will be regularly reviewed with the post holder and changes may be agreed over time.
