Deliver clinical and therapeutic care to patients as required within set protocols/policies and within the scope of the Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate remit.
Main duties of the job
To include;
- Support patients to meet personal care needs
- Support patients to eat and drink
- Support patients to manage continence and teach pelvic floor exercises
- Ensure patients are comfortable and free from pain
- Move and position patients in accordance with their plan of care
- Prepare and support patients prior to, during and following healthcare activities such as flexible cystoscopies and prostate biopsies
- Chaperone patients in accordance to policy
- Prepare clinical area prior to, during and following a clinical session
- Observe patients general condition and report any changes or concerns to the Registered Practitioner
- Support and maintain the safety of the distressed patient and their relatives
- Undertake Point of Care testing
- Green card training to carry out observations and department specific equipment
- Obtain and test specimens
- Undertake dressings and with training more complex dressings
- Remove sutures and clips
- Undertake measurements of patients vital signs
- Undertake venepuncture and cannulation
- Carry out wound drainage care
- Remove wound drains
- Undertake tissue viability risk assessments and treatment
- Access and act upon patient results
- Ordering tests and making referrals within their scope of practice
About us
Urology Outpatients and Diagnostics is a small, dynamic team of nurses who not only run Dr-led clinics but also a large amount of Nurse-led activity in this Outpatient department. We work alongside a much wider and growing team team including Urodynamics.
We predominantly care for patients with urology conditions this include continence, urinary tract symptoms and infections, cancer of prostate, testicular, penile and bladder. Pre and post operative education and support for patient having urological procedures. We offer lithotripsy for kidney and uretic stones, changes of complex catheters, Catheter removal(TWOC), erectile dysfunction, diagnostic procedures such as flexible cystoscopies and prostate biopsy's, urodynamics including video Urodynamics and urinary flows. Bladder installations for bladder cancer , urinary tract infection and bladder pain. We participate in clinical trials and research.
