Job summary
The NHS provides Genomic testing through a single national testing network, creating a world-class resource for the NHS and underpinning the future Genomic Medicine Service. It also supports the delivery of the Government's Life Sciences Strategy and the broader research and innovation agenda, building upon the NHS contribution to the 100,000 Genomes Project.
The post holder will assist in the provision of Genomic services using informatics, data analysis and the management of departmental IT systems (including StarLIMS) to facilitate smooth running of the department and the Southwest Genomic Laboratory Hub (SWGLH), which is led by North Bristol NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support SWGLH colleagues, by
- Optimising and maintaining the current departmental IT solution (STAR LIMS),
- Maintenance and standardisation of the Genomic laboratory LIMS systems, working towards unification of the Exeter and BGL sites
- Reviewing and scoping interoperability potential
- Increase the Digital Interoperability between the Genomics LIMS and Pathology LIMS across the southwest.
- Increasing the interoperability between clinical users and the GLH e.g. electronic requesting and reporting
- Management of data and cloud infrastructure
- Creating or tailoring reporting solutions to further develop a dashboard functionality
- Developing a specification for the procurement of the new IT system to meet the business requirements
- Advising on issues of data standards and quality as necessary.
- Tailoring the current LIMS to meet NHSE KPIs and quality improvements.
- The post holder will also be involved in leading projects or ad hoc queries that address key analytical and information needs of the SWGLH.
