Research Facilitator

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Facilitator (Neurosurgery) to join North Bristol NHS Trust. This post has been made possible following a generous donation from the Billie Elizabeth Wood Trust and presents a fantastic opportunity for the post holder to develop a portfolio of collaborative and home-grown research at NBT, specifically focused on vasospasm research. The successful candidate will work alongside world leading Neurosurgeons at NBT with the support of the vibrant R&D department to seek out opportunities for research, and use their research knowledge and skills to develop and set up these innovative projects.

The post is being offered at 1.0wte for 24 months and will be line managed through the NBT Research & Development Department, having access to peer support and mentorship fromthe Research Development and Grants Team, whilst being based day-to-day with the Neurosurgery Team.

Main duties of the job

The Research Facilitator will work with the Neurosurgery Team; Mr Mario Teo and Mr Crispin Wigfield, external collaborators and patients to drive forward a research strategy and a pipeline of high-quality research grants; setting up NBT as a collaborator on external grants as well as leading the development of home-grown research and grant submissions to a range of funders; coordinating public and patient involvement, supporting grant writing, liaising with collaborators and organising project teams, working with the Research and Innovation department to cost grants, leading on the set-up of grants, including IRAS submissions, and working with our finance and contracts team.

Your research experience, ability to prioritise your workload to tight deadlines, ability to organise projects teams and experience of patient involvement in research, will ensure a well-informed, coordinated support mechanism for the set-up of research grants/projects and the submission of high-quality competitive grant applications to national funding bodies.

Knoweldge, experience and qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc) in social sciences/research or management or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in planning and conducting research including preparing grant applications and research design
  • An understanding of the NHS R&D funding system
