Job summary
The Head of Allied Health Professions role will provide senior strategic and leadership across the AHP workforce ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, and efficient care across multiple professions and service areas.
The role is responsible for shaping and delivering long term AHP strategy, developing business plans, and ensuring that national and organisational objectives, performance targets, and professional standards are met.
As the senior professional lead, the Head of AHP oversees workforce planning, development, and performance, while holding accountability for significant budgets and resources.
The role also leads on policy implementation, service transformation, governance, and outcome measurement, acting as a key advisor to the organisation on AHP matters and driving continuous improvement across the AHP workforce.
Main duties of the job
- Provide senior strategic leadership for the AHP workforce, driving the development of high-quality, safe, and effective multi-disciplinary services.
- Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of AHP service models aligned with Trust priorities, national AHP standards, and system-wide transformation agendas.
- Oversee service improvement programmes that enhance patient outcomes, workforce sustainability, and organisational performance.
- Lead annual and long-term business planning for AHP services, ensuring alignment with Trust and national objectives. Contribute to wider corporate strategy, representing AHPs at senior leadership forums and influencing Trust-wide transformation.
- Ensure performance targets, quality standards, and strategic goals are met through robust planning and monitoring. Lead and support senior AHP leaders, fostering a compassionate, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
- Evaluate service models, redesign proposals, and strategic options, often in ambiguous or high-pressure situations. Develop long-term strategic plans for AHP services, modelling future workforce needs and service demand.
- Provide senior professional oversight of patient care standards across all AHP services. Lead the implementation and review of AHP policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and professional standards Lead audits, surveys, and evaluations to inform strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement.
