Job summary

We are seeking an inspiring and forward-thinking IPC Lead to drive excellence in infection prevention and control, and champion safe, high quality-care across our organisation.

To Provide strategic leadership of the Trust's approach to Infection Prevention and Control Team and managing the IPC team to support the delivery of high quality and safe care, underpinned by evidenced based IPC practice, in accordance with the Care Quality Commission, Health & Social Care Act and the Code of Practice.

Offer expert advice and guidance to staff, patients, relatives and members of the public when required, supporting the nominated Director for Infection, Prevention and Control.

Deliver upon improvement targets and initiatives identified as part of the Board Assurance Framework, supporting continuous improvement of safe care.

Main duties of the job

Provide strategic leadership and expert advice in relation to all matters relating to infection prevention and control.

  • Work collaboratively with the corporate team/service leads and partner agencies to develop the strategic agenda for infection prevention and control.
  • To translate the health strategy for infection prevention and control providing leadership in its implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • To be accountable for the provision of expert infection prevention and control advice based on the interpretation of national statutory and mandatory frameworks and guidelines.
  • Working collaboratively in providing high quality evidence-based services to ensure the development and co-ordination of inter-disciplinary and inter-agency relationships in order to minimise the risks to patients, staff and the public.
  • The post holder will be the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Responsible Person (Water) providing advice and support in the management of staff and or patients in the location affected in line with this policy and the Trust Water Safety Plan.
  • Work with others to minimise the risk of healthcare acquired infections.
  • Report to the Board on how the Trust is meeting statutory IPC requirements through an annual review report.
  • The post-holder will provide line management of the infection prevention and control team.
