Job summary

London North West Healthcare NHS trust is seeking to appoint a Part time (8 PA) Consultant in Breast Surgery committed to providing and developing high quality patient care within an innovative and growing breast unit.

The breast service is currently split over two sites Northwick Park and Ealing hospitals, and provides for the boroughs of Harrow, Brent and Ealing. Post holder is expected to work across both sites. As a whole, the service sees over 8000 new patients a year, and manages over 450 new cancers a year. All surgery takes place in at Northwick Park site. The unit offers all forms of oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery, apart from free flaps. For this, there is an established and efficient reconstructive pathway to Imperial Healthcare's Plastic surgery unit, with these joint procedures taking place at Charing Cross Hospital. There is also a close link with the North London Breast Screening Unit.

The breast unit is a national leader in providing daycase surgery, and the wider multi-disciplinary team has particular expertise in MRI and mammotome biopsy. The postholder would be part of an enthusiastic and committed multi-disciplinary team that meets weekly, and aims to work flexibly to provide excellent care. The department currently has Three full time and two part time substantive surgical consultants. Support is provided by a team of clinical nurse specialists, 2.5 full time staff grades, a surgical StR trainee (NW Thames rotation) and a GP ST1 trainee.
