Job summary
This post involves care of children on Jacks Place (Long stay inpatient ward), Paediatric Day-care unit, Rainbow Ward or the Paediatric ambulatory unit (PAU)(Short stay inpatient ward <24hrs) and the care of children in the Paediatric Emergency department. The trust grade SHOs in Paediatrics are part of the ST1-3/ FY2 rota and will see all children as per the agreed protocol in the Emergency Department. They will attend ward rounds, daily hand-over, weekly Grand Round and other departmental teaching opportunities. They will also be given the opportunity to see children in outpatient clinics alongside consultants or registrars.
The trust grade SHO will work a full shift working pattern, which is less than an average 48 hours per week and is EWTD compliant and compliant with the junior doctor contract. There is a 24-week rolling rota devised on DRS software template when the full complement of 24 SHOs are present. Otherwise, it is subject to change, within compliance to the EWTD. 6 roles need to be covered each day - 1 paediatric A&E short day, 2 paediatric A&E Lates, 1 Ward Long Day, 3 on nights, 1 on daycare and 1 on the paediatric ambulatory unit (PAU). Weekend cover includes long days and late shifts on the ward, PAU or A&E and night shifts.
