Job summary
Dickens Ward Discharge Ready Unit is recruiting a full time ward clerk to work collaboratively and co-operatively with colleagues to provide full administrative, reception and clerical support for the unit.
You will assist with all administrative duties relating to the admission and discharge of patients, completion of an accurate bed state using the electronic patient record system (Cerner) and management of any paper patient records in accordance with Trust policy.
The ward clerk is the face of the ward, being the first point of contact for all patients, visitors and staff either in person or over the telephone.
You will be a communication ambassador for the ward, display the highest customer care and public professional courtesy standards, and adhere to and promote Trust HEART values at all times.
Main duties of the job
The duties of the Ward Clerk, will include:
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with colleagues to provide full administrative, reception and clerical support for the unit.
- First point of contact, 'meet and greet' for all patients, visitors and staff adhering to Trust values, promoting high standards of customer care at all times.
- Handling face to face and telephone enquiries in a sympathetic, pleasant and efficient manner, ensuring messages are relayed in an appropriate and timely method, referring calls and enquiries to the appropriate persons when appropriate.
- Be competent to communicate with patients, visitors and employees for whom English is not their first language or have communication difficulties. Know where and when to seek appropriate support and advice to ensure accurate information is exchanged.
- Ensure the ward bed state is up to date
- Maintain data quality of all activity in the ward through input and retrieval of information from the electronic patient record (Cerner) and any other necessary clinical systems.
- Manage paper patient case notes in accordance with Trust and unit process
- Work closely with multidisciplinary team including nursing and therapy staff, complex discharge team, ward clerks and data quality team to ensure accurate data is maintained.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhere to information governance and data protection policies
