Locum Consultant in Histopathology

Job summary

The Cellular Pathology Department which is based at Northwick Park Hospital requires a Locum consultant in Cellular Pathology, with aspecial interest in Breast, Urology, Gynae, Gastrointestinal histology including medical livers and Non Gynae Cytology who will work alongside an established team of twelve other pathologists.

The department of Cellular Pathology at NPH was joined by the St Mark's Academic Unit of Gastrointestinal Pathology in 1995 and by the CMH department in 2002. It occupies levels 4WX and 6X, part of the wing of the campus that houses the endoscopy suite, St Mark's and the Northwick Park Institute for Medical Research (NPIMR). This wing is also close to the theatre block. It includes the Regional Cytology Training School facilities. Within the department are two interconnecting seminar rooms (seating for up to 60 persons).

There is a stratified payment system in place for internal backlog management that allows payments reflective of complexity to be made for additional cases undertaken.

Candidates wishing to work part time or additional PAs will also be considered.

Reporting in the combination of subspecialities listed above including attending MDTs and cut up.

The appointee will be expected to take on the duties of a specialist working in a combination of the below listed specialities which include Urology, Gynae Histology, Breast, Gastrointestinal Pathology and Non Gynae Cytology.

The Departments routine workload includes a broad spectrum of screening and diagnostic cases together with network, national and international referral cases.

The diagnostic workload within the Department for Cellular Pathology ranges from 28000-33000/year.

The exact sessional commitment to the combination of the above subspecialties is currently flexible.

St Marks is one of the largest review centres in the UK for GI pathology, especially for polyposis, complex inflammatory bowel disease and cancer cases.

The diagnostic workload within the Department for Gastrointestinal Pathology ranges from 13,500-15,000/year.

  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)

Desirable

  • Management qualification
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview

Experience

Essential
