Teaching Fellow in ENT

Specialist Registrar Level 1 or ST3-4 Level

Northwick Park Hospital

This is a full time post commencing 6th of August 2025for an initial period of 12 months.

The posts are equivalent to a Specialist Registrar Level 1 or ST3-4 Level. Candidates holding the (MRCS 1/MRCS 2) This job is ideal for candidates who have completed their basic surgical training and are awaiting a higher surgical training number.

Candidates will commit 75% of their time to undergraduate teaching/simulation and the remainder in Research & Audit. The post holders will form part of an active and vibrant faculty and will be encouraged to attend and present at meetings and develop on R&D research/audit projects.

The post holder will assist with the delivery of teaching to undergraduates placed within ENT department.

A positive approach to flexible working, problem solving and a passion for teaching would be advantageous.

ROLE AND DUTIES OF THE TEACHING FELLOW IN OTOLARYNGOLOGY

Aims & General Responsibilities

This post is for 1year fixed term. The main aim of the posts is to provide clinical training to final year Imperial Undergraduate students Otolaryngology.

The teaching component of the posts will be accountable to the Director of Clinical Studies and the Otolaryngology Consultant Surgeon and Education Lead, Mr. Arvind Singh. The research and clinical component will be accountable to an appropriate consultant surgeon relevant to the chosen research project. The teaching fellows will have an office and access to computing facilities as well as administrative secretarial help via each campus undergraduate office.

The post holder will be expected to spend at least 75% of their contracted time helping to develop, co-ordinate and deliver a high standard of clinical teaching to the medical students and the remainder of their time in research & clinical work.

They will be expected to attend regular Faculty Meetings.

A) THE TEACHING COMMITMENT

The teaching will involve a range of activities such as tutorials, skills laboratory, bedside teaching, and dedicated teaching clinics on an outpatient basis. Time is allocated for preparation of tutorials, lectures & teaching materials such as handouts. The teaching fellow will be also encouraged to show initiative & develop other teaching ideas such as student case presentations, role playing, quiz and simulation. Imperial College expects a patient-centered approach.

A major emphasis of the teaching will be focused on the core curriculum and clinical skills required for the year 6 students during their 1 weeklong Otolaryngology placement at the campus from July/August to December. From January 2025 the post holder will be teaching year 3 students and helping with MBBS exams.
