Job summary

We currently have vacancies for Band 5 Recovery Nurse and we are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our peri-operative team. The LNWH NHS Trust utilises innovation in peri-operative practice; as such we have a five (5) bedded Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) that runs collaboratively with our Recovery Unit. We have a tradition of excellence and our vision is simple, to provide a gold standard in peri-operative practice, and invest in you the people who deliver care.

The post holder will be part of the multi-disciplinary team in delivering post-surgery/procedure and post anaesthesia care to patients being cared for in the Recovery area.

The Recovery Practitioner will be practicing a high standard of care, participating in all activities in the department and work flexibly alongside the team members to meet and deliver service needs of Recovery area.

To contribute to the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care/care pathways including discharge planning of each patient.

To practice according to NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018) taking the responsibility of providing a high standard and holistic individualised care to each patient or a defined group of patients.

To work and practice within professional limitations and boundaries and escalating issues or difficulties to nurse in charge and/or Recovery Lead Practitioner if unable to resolve within own capability/capacity.

Main duties of the job

It is a rotational role between PACU and Recovery Units at Northwick Park Hospital (NPH) and Central Middlesex Hospital (CMH), part of the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWUH). This post primarily will be focused on the immediate post anaesthetic care on adults and children that have undergone elective to complex surgery.

The post holder:

Is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of post-operative and post anaesthesia care needs of patients under your care.

Work collaboratively and as part of the team to deliver and meet the care needs of patients coming through the Recovery area.

To participate in nursing care activities of the team within the area of work responsibility.

To assist in the organisation and work planning of the Recovery Lead Practitioner as required.

To maintain and contribute to high quality standard of care delivery and ensuring professional practice is evidence-based.

To support the integration and implementation of clinical governance in all aspects of patient care and service delivery.

To contribute to the continuing professional development of students/learners, junior members of staff and colleagues.

  • Accepts responsibility with awareness of own professional competence and limitations and acknowledge own boundaries by asking for assistance as required.
  • Recognise and appropriately respond to urgent and emergency situations.
  • To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team demonstrating awareness of role and responsibilities.
  • To update the patient care records ensuring own responsibility and accountability in maintaining accurate nursing documentation using Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system and in any other form.

  • Maintain an up-to-date Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) registration. Ensure they meet the requirements for revalidation and/or keep professional portfolio updated.
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018) and other appropriate NMC guidelines.
  • To act in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018) with reference to limitations of competence and conduct.
  • Is wholly responsible and accountable for own nursing practice and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competence.
  • Ensure own Mandatory and Statutory Training (MaST) compliance and compliance of others to include relevant professional development training requirements.
