Job summary
The Post holder will be expected to exhibit specific skills in the management of disorders of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. This will include undertaking telephone/face to face assessment, education, counselling of patients and maintaining an advice line
The post holder will work closely with the whole endoscopy team and the MDT collaboratively.
The post holder will be responsible for assessing in the delivery of an efficient and effective service for the trust.
They will assist with the development of the pre-assessment service.
The pre-assessment nurse will actively contribute to the pre-assessment service; this includes the GA, Non GA and Polyp Specialist Servcie
This person will supported by the senior pre-assessment sisters/charge nurse.
There is a team of band 7 nurses, band 6 nurses and administrative team running the pre-assessment service. This ensures that there is appropriate cover, delegation and support both clinically and managerially in times of absence and leave.

Main duties of the job
- Working collaboratively with the immediate and extended Endoscopy on several sites
- Assisting in the direct delivery and management of the Pre-assessment services.
- Co-ordinating and providing care from the point of access to address the needs of individuals arising as a consequence of referral from the 2 week wait /Endoscopy services.
- Acting as the patient advocate supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages of the Pre-Assessment processes.
- Adhering to health promotion strategies
- Supporting the senior nurses in the development of the service
- Supporting the team with clinical governance, quality assurance and quality management systems
- Ensuring that patient data are collected, stored, and used to meet trust and JAG requirements
- The ability to evaluate the service and contribute to quality assurance activities
- Working collaboratively to ensure audit of the service is in line with National Guidelines
