Job summary

  • The role of the Band 5 nurse is to provide support to a multi-disciplinary team on Galen unit working in the vein's procedure room, line service, out-patient clinic and nurse led wound clinics. The unit runs Monday to Friday.
  • The post holder will perform unsupervised / supervised nursing, scrub roles for which he/she has been specifically trained, recovery, wound care ,administrative / clerical, and are within their sphere of competence.
  • Work collaboratively and co-operatively with other members of the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients and their families.
  • To supervise and teach other nurses, healthcare assistants and temporary staff when required.

Main duties of the job

  • To communicate effectively and work in partnership with patients, their relative/ carers, nurse colleague and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure care is delivered in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Receive sensitive information concerning patient's medical conditions and dealing with nervous patients.
  • Work in partnership with the patient and family and other health care professionals in care delivery.
  • Provide support and advice to patients and relatives when faced with distressing situations.
  • Accept responsibility; be aware and able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area and able to adhere to, both by self and colleagues.
  • To have good communication skills both verbally, formal documentation and electronic sources (IT) with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients and families.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records of patient care In line with Trust policies.
  • Adhere to the Trust policies pertaining to patient confidentiality/the Data protection Act/ Caldecott Recommendations.
