The full-time Optometrist role will be based at Central Middlesex Hospital.
The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.
You will implement and develop procedural protocols, policies and professional advice to help to upskill your team of Optometrists.
Main duties of the job
A Glaucoma Principal Optometrist Lead is required to join our Ophthalmology department at Central Middlesex Hospital. The role will include leading our Optometrists to developing themselves while managing their own case load. An experienced applicant is preferred with post graduate glaucoma clinical experience. The applicant should possess high quality knowledge of Ophthalmology and experience of applying high quality knowledge into practice, excellent communication and organisational skills as well as the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The post holder is expected to work as a highly-skilled senior practitioner and to have expert knowledge in Glaucoma.
- The primary focus of the role is to be the professional lead of the allied health professional arm of the glaucoma service. Being responsible for advanced, autonomous practitioner level, providing patient clinical care, encompassing the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care and improve the overall performance of the Glaucoma Service.
- To communicate with the Head of Optometry and Orthoptic Services, Consultant and other members of the team.
- To be responsible for the management of Optometrists including individual performance review, regular 1 to 1 meetings and monitoring leave, sick leave, maternity leave etc.
- To oversee all the Optometrists, manage their roster and leave accordingly
- To deploy Optometrists for optimum benefits of patients to meet service needs in the main eye clinic and the community diagnostic hub.
