Job summary

We are seeking a motivated, forward-thinking permanent part-time Band 6 speech and language therapist with a strong interest in neuro-rehabilitation to join us at one of the UK's leading rehabilitation units. The Regional Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit (RHRU) is a tertiary service which caters for young adults with severe complex neurological disability, over a supra-regional area with a population in excess of 5 million. It is a highly specialised, level one rehabilitation service combining inpatient services (24 beds) with outreach support to community rehabilitation teams and other professionals across the network. The RHRU treats a wide range of patients, from people requiring high level cognitive and vocational rehabilitation, to people who are in prolonged disorders of consciousness (PDoC) or who are receiving neuro-palliative care.

The RHRU is a centre of research and learning and the successful candidate will be able to participate in research and improvement activities, in-house and external training, regular supervision and competency development, and peer support networks.

Main duties of the job

You will join a team of four SLTs with a fulltime SLTA in a large multidisciplinary team. There are opportunities to further develop skills in complex dysphagia, augmentative/alternative communication, tracheostomy management, prolonged disorders of consciousness, FEES and videofluroscopy (which are both readily available) and specialist neuro-palliative care in an experienced and supportive team. The RHRU SLT team is supported by the larger SLT department at Northwick Park, contributing to Trust-wide initiatives and regular opportunities for CPD and research.

This is a part-time role being 0.8 EFT (four days per week)
