Job summary
We are recruiting an Assistant Psychologist (AP) for a fixed-term contract of 12 months at Band 5 AFC level.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across two distinct, and highly specialist, areas of applied psychology. The post holder will work 0.6 WTE time into the Critical Care Psychology Service and 0.4 WTE time into the Occupational Health and Staff Wellbeing Psychology Service.
This post will suit someone who has an interest in working with NHS staff teams and staff wellbeing and within clinical health psychology.
Main duties of the job
Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
-To work within professional guidelines and under the direct supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist to deliver, support and enhance the provision of psychological care for staff of London North West Healthcare NHS Trust in Staff Wellbeing and OH, and of patients and their families within Critical Care services at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust.
- The Critical Care Service and the Occupational Health Service are based on all three sites: Northwick Park Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital, and Ealing Hospital, with the primary bases being Northwick Park.
-To take responsibility for clinically related administration, managing patient records, database and activity recording for the psychology team, collection of statistics, development and conduct of audit and/or research projects, teaching in relation to psychological wellbeing and other activities related to clinical governance.
-To support staff wellbeing initiatives of all kinds throughout the Trust under the direct supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist. Also to support specific staff wellbeing tasks within critical care, as directed by psychologists in critical care.

Working Relationships & Communication Requirements: For example, to represent the OH/ Critical Care Psychology Service at multidisciplinary team meetings, to communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner across a range of situations, to maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with Trust policies and guidelines from the British Psychological Society and HCPC, to employ excellent verbal and written communication skills in highly emotional and distressing circumstances with due regard for cultural and linguistic differences, to liaise with other LNWH Services, NHS Trusts, Social Care Services and charities regarding onward referral of patients and family member
Responsibility for Policy/Service Development: For example, to advise the Lead Clinical Psychologist about issues of service delivery as they are identified, to attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed, to be aware of the principles of Clinical Governance with regards to risk management, quality standards and clinical effectiveness, to support team initiatives for clinical governance, research and service development.
General duties: For example, to contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, to support the work of the Psychological Services Network (PSN) at LNWH, to communicate efficiently and sensitively with all colleagues and clients and maintain high standards of clinical record keeping.
