Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Perioperative Sister/Charge Nurse in the Recovery in Northwick Park Hospital.

The post holder will be required to co-ordinate Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) activities especially safe patient care with the support of the Perioperative Matron and Consultant Anaesthetists, provide clinical and professional leadership to junior members of staff to ensure high standards of care are met.

To support an environment that promotes excellence in clinical nursing practice and development of high levels of clinical skills in post - anaesthetic.

The post holder will deliver and participate in the teaching and development of staff as well the overall management of nursing services in PACU/Recovery. The post holder will act up for the Matron as required.

To care for patients in the immediate post-operative and post anaesthetic period. To care for patients requiring post-anaesthetic enhanced care in a Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and Recovery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a registered nurse with significant PACU/Recovery, HDU/ICU and/or surgical nursing experience. Must be highly motivated, happy in leading a team and able to overcome challenges that may arise during the shift.

The post holder must have experience in leadership and management of a big team. Be a good effective communicator and able to work as part of a team and on their own initiative. Be willing to undertake specialist training. Also must possess a teaching and assessing qualification and post-registration course in the area of PACU/Recovery specialism to effectively teach, guide and support nursing staff.

The post holder will be working closely with the Matron and per times will be deputising in Matron's absence.
