CONSULTANT IN ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY

With Specialist interest in Skin and Trauma

London North West Healthcare NHS Trust is looking to recruit a forward thinking and dynamic consultant OMFS surgeon with a specialist interest in skin cancer surgery and oral and maxillofacial trauma. This post consists of ten programmed activities and is mainly based at Northwick Park Hospital for inpatient and on-calls. There will be out patient and day surgery session at other hospitals based on the suitable candidate's interest. The development of specialist surgical interests will be integral to this post.

The maxillofacial department at Northwick ParkHospital is the regional service that serves thewhole of the North West London, West Hertfordshire and South Berkshire and covers Watford, Hillingdon, Mount Vernon, Wexham Park, Central Middlesex, West Middlesexand Ealing Hospitals and St Marys Major Trauma Centre with shared consultant appointments and links with Royal Marsden Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Based at The London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, and St Marys Hospital major trauma centre (Imperial College NHS Trust) requires an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon with a specialist interest in skin cancer surgery, oral and maxillofacial trauma and Facial deformity to help the existing consultant colleagues due to expansion and demand for the service. A broad based training in all aspects of OMFS is essential. This person will work as a member of the network consultant team supporting services across the network and participating in an on call rota.

The post holder will assist the network changes adopted to support the development of the service as a Regional Oral & Maxillofacial Unit of national excellence. The main sessions for the post will be at St Mary's major trauma center and Northwick park hospital.

Qualifications & Higher Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council GMC) and a Dental Qualification eligible for registration with General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent.
  • Fellowship or Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, or equivalent
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent.

  • Demonstrable evidence of specialist interest in Complex craniofacial trauma and post traumatic deformity
  • Complex reconstructive trauma skill and skin cancer treatment and management.
  • Broad based experience and extensive clinical expertise in general Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • ATLS - current certification

Desirable

  • Training and experience in the acute management of general trauma IT skills
  • Experience in skin cancer treatment developments and innovations

Training & Teaching

Essential

  • Successful completion of an SAC- approved 5 year minimum training programme in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent, or within 6 months of completion.
  • Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching
  • Delivery of Trauma based teaching at post graduate level
