Job summary
St Mark's endoscopy unit is a centre of excellence for lower GI endoscopy.
The unit has 6 procedure rooms and 14 recovery bays at St Mark's Hospital
There is also a 2 roomed Endoscopy unit at ACAD Central Middlesex Hospital and a 2 roomed unit at Ealing Hospital.
And a new 5 room endoscopy unit and decontamination unit opening in 2023.
The unit performs: - OGD, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy, ERCP, Double Balloon Enteroscopy and Capsule & Bravo Capsule Endoscopy.
Main duties of the job
Daily communicate face to face with nursing staff, and other endoscopy technicians.
- Daily co-ordinate the endoscopes required to perform the procedures in the endoscopy rooms and communicate any deficiencies to the nurses in the procedure rooms
- Communicate any shortages or breakages of endoscopes or other equipment to the supervisor technician and/or the Decontamination Services Manager
- Accept responsibility; be aware and able to locate all local and Trust policies related to good working practice within the clinical area.
- To deputize for the endoscopy technician supervisor in their absence including ensuring that, washer disinfectors and accessories are fit for use.
To decontaminate, disinfect and sterilize all endoscopes and accessories in accordance with the Endoscopy Unit policy, BSG guidelines, and Medical Devices Agency, HTM 0106 and HTM 0101, and manufactures guidelines, etc. etc.
- Understand the correct procedure for packaging, disinfecting and sterilizing all accessories.
- Have a working knowledge of all autoclavable accessories.
- Assist in the monitoring and ordering of endoscopy packaging and accessories.
- Complete the tracking documentation for the endoscopes and accessories.
- Assist in auditing the tracking system for compliance to sterilization guidelines and renew products as required.
- Assist in the quality control review of disinfected / sterilized equipment weekly in line with the unit and Trust infection control policy

Endoscopy Technician
37.5 hours per week including Saturday working

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust Endoscopy department is now moving towards a 6 day working week you are being asked to join our large multidisciplinary team of endoscopy technicians across 3 Hospitals, St Marks / Central Middlesex and Ealing Hospitals to be part of this team.
The post holder will be part of a team of technicians responsible for the disinfecting and maintenance of endoscopes, maintaining the disinfecting washing machines RO units, and all other accessories.
The job will be undertaken with a high standard of infection control and working within all the policies relevant to the working area.
The post holder will work for the hours stated under the guidance of the Endoscopy Decontamination Services Manager and Supervisors in the Endoscopy Decontamination suites. The post holder will be based in the Endoscopy Decontamination Units Trust wide St Marks / Central Middlesex Hospitals.
