Job summary

We have an opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Nurse to join our specialised team within the Ophthalmology department .

The roles offer the opportunity for staff to work within our eye department and extended community diagnostic hub. With support from the Lead Ophthalmology Nurse and eye team you will be leading a dynamic team of junior nurses and ophthalmic technicians.

Essential: substantial Band 5 experience within the Ophthalmology speciality. Slit lamp experience and Intravitreal injection training.

Qualifications: RGN, Mentorship qualification and Ophthalmology Course.

Development Opportunities: Training needs will be evaluated and development plans implemented to support you with your own personal and professional development needs. There are a wide range of learning opportunities including staff management - Roster Skills - Budget/Finance - Patient pathways - and teaching opportunities.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as an advocate for the patient/family and significant others.
  • Demonstrate politeness courteously and sensitivity when dealing with patients.
  • Maintain good customer relations by keeping patients well informed.
  • Facilitate patient advocacy as required ensuring that patients are able to make informed choices.
  • Maintain the patients right to dignity and privacy.
  • Providing a visible and authoritative presence to whom, patients can communicate with for assistance help and advice.
  • Recognise the legal implications of nursing documentation therefore maintain accurate and legible record-keeping in keeping with the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Liaise with and support all members within the Ophthalmology Department. Work with the team to develop a sense of cohesion and participate in Team Building Communication meetings, thus advancing the service.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, carers and relatives.
  • To be able to problem-solve communication barriers and act appropriately.
  • Be proactive in managing incidences / complaints and respond to both verbal and written complaints in line with Trust policy.
