Job summary

London North West University Healthcare Trust is seeking an experienced Deputy Director of Research & Innovation. The post holder is responsible to the Clinical Director of Research and Innovation and has the freedom to work independently to directly deliver "World Class" research services across the Trust, which will have an impact at both a local and national level; in line with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research. This involves delivering a cohesive research long-term strategy with the Research Director, supported by infrastructure and operational arrangements to sustain research at the highest level. They will ensure that the implementation of the strategy is effectively managed in a rapidly evolving area with regards to building the research portfolio, management of the research office and research infrastructure to deliver a quality service to meet the research needs not only of Trust investigators but also key collaborators and stakeholders. The post holder will be responsible for the sound financial management of the R&I budget, and be instrumental in increasing the funding through external initiatives and sound business planning.

Main duties of the job

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delivering the research strategy and ensure that it is supported by infrastructure and operational arrangements to sustain research at the highest
  • Develop policies and procedures which will ensure compliance with the national laws and guidance laid down for the conduct of research within NHS
  • Ensure that research is aligned with reconfiguration of clinical and corporate
  • Maintain robust financial management of the budget and be instrumental in increasing the funding through external initiatives and sound business
  • Support the implementation of innovation across the Trust and to help provide a supportive
  • Lead on initiating and implementing strategic partnerships with academia and industry

Essential

  • Degree Level Education or equivalent Experince
  • Higher Degree in a healthcare research-related discipline or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Management qualification, e.g. MBA or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Thorough knowledge of NHS/DH R&D policies and strategy, particularly the UK Policy Framework for Health & Social Care Research, EU Clinical Trials Directive, Human Tissue Act and the National DH research strategy
  • Highly specialist knowledge of clinical and health services research, including in depth knowledge across a range of disciplines
  • Awareness of broader NHS policies impacting on R&D, e.g. the NHS Plan, Standards for Better Health.
