Job summary

An exciting opportunity has to join the current HEMS Dispatch Coordinator Team at Horizon Place, Nottingham. We are recruiting 3 Full Time Dispatch Coordinator on a secondment/fixed term basis for 10 months.

Based within the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), the post holder is responsible for making the appropriate tactical decisions for the deployment of all support resources relevant to their area of responsibility within Hems Team in order to maximise the performance of the Trust against prescribed national performance standards and local operating instructions.

This role is a full time role working a 24/7 rota pattern as part of the HEMS Dispatch Team.

This additional role will provide a crucial function within the EOC team primarily focused on the Dispatch areas for HEMS Teams.

This role will be paid A4C Band 4 with an element of A4C section 2 unsocial payments.

Main duties of the job

It is envisaged the successful candidates will have previous experience of working within EOC and demonstrate an ability to dynamically make decisions in a high pressured environment, the ability to work on their own initiative within a close knit team and effective verbal communication skills are vital attributes in the successful candidates.

You will work in partnership with other Departmental and Operational Managers to ensure best practice and business continuity is provided across the whole Trust.Accountable to the EOC Management Team, you will be responsible for the delivery of the service by providing expert knowledge and skills in the specialty area of EOC. Specifically the core responsibilities are to:

o Deliver and exceed Department of Health and locally agreed targets, including the core elements of HEMS, Urgent Care Service and CFR.

o To ensure the effective utilisation of people and vehicles throughout the EOC.

o Support the EOC Management Team in achieving and excelling in the provision of patient care and ensuring patients receive the best clinical routes and outcomes.

About us

Overseen by the EOC Senior Manager, successful candidates will work as part of a detailed team of Dispatch Coordinators providing assistance to HEMS Air Ambulance Teams.

You will work alongside all Dispatch functions with the Emergency Operations Centre and will be supported by the on duty management teams on a 24/7 basis.

  • Analyse call information to determine the appropriate resource to dispatch that meets patient need, takes health, safety and welfare needs into account and is in line with control operating protocols and procedures for EMICS, HEMS, URGENTS, CFR as relevant to the Dispatch Desk worked.
  • Support the dispatch teams to co-ordinate and manage all resources within own area of responsibility, ensuring that maximum efficiency is achieved and performance targets are met.
  • Communicate by radio with operational staff and third parties both to deploy in line with radio protocol and to assist with queries, requests for assistance.
  • All communications by Dispatch Coordinators are sensitive and covered by the Caldicott Report and Data Protection Act.
  • Dispatcher Co-ordinators will utilise, phone, electronic data, radio, pager plus paper communications.
  • Must be able to revert to operating on paper in the event of the CAD being dysfunctional.
  • Work alongside the dispatchers to support the achievement of no patient waiting providing relevant back up resources to the core A/E function dispatch.
