Job summary

Post Title:Student Ambulance Technician (University of Lincoln Pathway)

Band: Agenda for Change75% of the top of Band 4(training rate) until sign off and then Band 4 until successful completion of all components of the Newly Qualified Technician (NQT) consolidation of practice portfolio and progression to experienced/independent Clinician status in line with the Trust's Newly Qualified Technician (NQT) Policy.

East Midlands Ambulance NHS Trust (EMAS) are pleased to advertise theStudent Ambulance Technician Pathway in collaboration with the University of Lincolnto encourage motivated and committed people to join our service.

Main duties of the job

This Student Ambulance Technician (University of Lincoln Pathway) programme is unique in its design. During the programme you will complete:

  • A Certificate in Higher Education Ambulance Clinical Technician Practice programme delivered by the University of Lincoln
  • EMAS specific induction
  • A minimum of 375 hours operational experiential development following completion of the core theory modules, to complete a university placement portfolio
  • 150 hours supernumerary practice
  • Emergency Driving education

The University programme is delivered across a minimum duration of 37 weeks (subject to all assessments being passed). The post is also subject to a probation period for the duration of development as per EMAS Probationary Period Policy, which is 13 months.

Upon qualifying as a Technician, you will undertake a 12-month period of consolidation in line with the Trust's Newly Qualified Technician (NQT) Policy.

About us

NQTs who have completed all components of the NQT consolidation of practice portfolio and deemed capable in Technician practice will progress to experienced/independent clinician status. At this point, the Technician may work with any grade of staff and will be expected to work independently and act as a clinical lead in the absence of a Paramedic/Registrant and will receive remuneration in line with Agenda for Change Band 5 pay scales.

About You

Firstly, you must be committed to providing excellent emergency and urgent care for patients of the East Midlands. You must also commit to upholding our Trust values of respect, integrity, compassion, teamwork and contribution. You will have experience in work roles that are people facing and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to personal development and have a realistic understanding of the ambulance service.

You must be occupationally fit to undertake the role of a Student Ambulance Technician. You must hold a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points for excess speed andmust haveat least a provisional C1 categoryat point of application.

The programme commences on 18th March 2024, comprising EMAS induction and Driving Education prior to commencing the Certificate in Higher Education Ambulance Clinical Technician Practice programme with the University of Lincoln on the 29th April 2024. Initial core theory modules will be studied throughout May, June and July, followed by a period of clinical placement time in August. Further learning will be delivered at the University of Lincoln during September and October 2024. You must therefore be committed, and able, to travel and attend the University during these periods. You will be recompensed for expenses in line with the Trusts Travel and Expenses Policy.

Placement blocks are not limited to Lincolnshire areas and could potentially be undertaken across the entire EMAS Region.

  • 86 UCAS tariff points at level 3.

  • Three GCSEs at Grade 4 (current grading) or above (previous grading of Grade C or above) including maths, English and a science subject (or equivalent)

The Student Ambulance Technician Pathway will require you to engage in a range of learning, including but not limited to taught and assessed sessions, self-directed learning, online learning, portfolio development and experiential learning in practice.
