Job summary

Post Title:Student Ambulance Technician (De Montfort University Pathway)

Band: Agenda for Change75% of the top of Band 4(training rate) until sign off and then Band 4 until successful completion of all components of the Newly Qualified Technician (NQT) consolidation of practice portfolio and progression to experienced/independent Clinician status in line with the Trust's Newly Qualified Technician (NQT) Policy.

Main duties of the job

This Student Ambulance Technician (De Montfort University Pathway) programme is unique in its design. During the programme you will complete:

A bespoke Ambulance Technician course delivered by De Montfort University, Leicester
Ambulance Technician core theory modules delivered at De Montfort University
EMAS specific induction
A minimum of 32 weeks operational experiential development following completion of the core theory modules
150 hours supernumerary practice across two main placement blocks
Emergency Driving competencies

The duration of the pathway isa minimum of 59 weeksbefore being eligible for qualified Technician status (subject to all assessments being passed). The post is therefore subject to a probation period for the duration of development (59 weeks).

Upon qualifying as a Technician, you will undertake a 12-month period of consolidation in line with the Trust's Newly Qualified Technician (NQT) Policy.

About us

NQTs who have completed all components of the NQT consolidation of practice portfolio and deemed capable in Technician practice will progress to experienced/independent clinician status. At this point, the Technician may work with any grade of staff and will be expected to work independently and act as a clinical lead in the absence of a Paramedic/Registrant and will receive remuneration in line with Agenda for Change Band 5 pay scales.

About You

Firstly, you must be committed to providing excellent emergency and urgent care for patients of the East Midlands. You must also commit to upholding our Trust values of respect, integrity, compassion, teamwork and contribution. You will have experience in work roles that are people facing and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to personal development and have a realistic understanding of the ambulance service.

You must be occupationally fit to undertake the role of a Student Ambulance Technician. You must hold a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points for excess speed andmust haveat least a provisional C1 categoryat point of application.

The programme commences on 19th February 2024 with the core theory modules being undertaken at De Montfort University in April, May and June 2024. Further learning will be delivered at De Montfort University during October 2024 and February 2025. You must therefore be committed, and able to travel and attend the University during these periods. You will be recompensed for expenses in line with the Trusts Travel and Expenses Policy.

Placement blocks are not limited to Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutlant areas and could potentially be undertaken across the entire EMAS Region.

Additionally, you must hold the following:

Essential:

Three GCSEs at Grade 4 (current grading) or above (previous grading of Grade C or above) including Maths and English.
Full UK manual driving licence with C1 driving entitlement (provisional C1 will be accepted at point of application).
Aged 18 or above.

The Student Ambulance Technician Pathway will require you to engage in a range of learning, including but not limited to taught and assessed sessions, self-directed learning, online learning, portfolio development and experiential learning in practice.
