About you
East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) are pleased to advertise the Urgent Care Assistant (UCA) role and are looking to encourage enthusiastic and dedicated people to join our service. As everyone may not have all the educational qualifications to be able to apply for a clinical role, and we want everyone to be given the chance to join us, EMAS have worked to offer a learning and development journey, known as a pathway.
This pathway will enable you to begin working for us as an Urgent Care Assistant, whilst working towards improving your numeracy (maths), literacy (English) Functional Skills while also gaining a clinical qualification. On completion of these qualifications, you will then gain experience caring for our patients, before having the opportunity to continue to become an Ambulance Support Crew clinician. This will then offer you the chance to further develop onto the Trainee Technician programme, as part of this career development pathway.
About us
This Urgent Care Assistant programme has been created to provide opportunities for people requiring support to achieve their Functional Skills qualifications, and for those who have already achieved them.

- EMAS specific education
- Where required, Maths and English (numeracy and literacy) development will be taught as part of this education pathway
- Development opportunities to progress into the roles of Ambulance Support Crew clinician and then towards an Ambulance Technician
- Ambulance Driving competencies (skills).
The length of the Urgent Care Assistant programme isa minimum of nine weeksbefore becoming a qualified Urgent Care Assistant.
