Job summary

An excellent opportunity exists for a qualified Motor Vehicle Technician based atour Gorse Hill workshop. The role involves maintaining a range of vehicles operated by the Trust including Double crewed Ambulances, minibuses, Fast Response Cars and support vehicles.

Fleet Services currently have two permanent positions at the Gorse Hill workshop to offer.

Main duties of the job

You should have an appropriate qualification in Motor Vehicle Engineering with two years post training experience of working on vehicles of all types but in particular LCVs up to 7.5 tonnes. An MOT testers certificate and auto electrical skills would be an advantage.

A C1 Driving Licence is desirable or a wiliness to undertake the necessary training.

The successful applicant has an exciting opportunity to join the Fleet Services Department who provide support to our front line colleagues ensuring they have a highly maintained safe, well stocked, IPC compliant, vehicle to use, also well maintained Medical Equipment to ensure they are equipped to deal with any medical emergencies attended.

As well as the salary stated the successful candidate will start on 27 days Annual Leave rising to 33 days over time served. You will be welcomed into the Fleet family and have the opportunity to learn about the ambulance service and the support services surrounding the front line. There are opportunities to get involved in the way we work and plenty of workplace groups to engage with.

At Gorse Hill workshop you will be part of a team of 7 Vehicle Technicians, 3 Team Leaders a parts specialist, 2 Fleet Drivers and a Domestic Cleaner. We work closely alongside a Make Ready Team and AST Deep Clean Team.

No two days are the same and there is plenty to learn.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out repairs and preventative maintenance on vehicles operated by the Trust and where applicable third party owned vehicles.

Carry out effective overhaul, repair and servicing of the vehicles in a safe economical and timely manner employing skills and knowledge as required.

Carry out effective repair and service of specialist equipment used on ambulance vehicles within the skill and training given.

To test and diagnose faults on vehicles with the aid of diagnostic equipment available. If suitably qualified to undertake the testing of vehicles within an MOT registered Test Station to the required standards and document these tests.

Note and report additional work arising to the Team Leader for decision on the scope of repairs to be undertaken.

Complete all relevant documentation to work undertaken and use the Vehicle Maintenance system appropriately as per guidance given.

Attend damaged or defected vehicles to effect repairs or liaise with VRC to arrange recovery to the trust workshops, at all times observing appropriate safety and traffic regulations.

Observe at all times safe working practices and Health and safety regulations as applicable to the workplace.

Attend as required training and development courses arranged by the Trust.

Keep individual knowledge of industry developments and up to date on products and technology.

Maintain records of work and attendance as required by Trust systems.
