Job summary
As the Associate Medical Director you will primarily be responsible for the provision of clinical and management support to the Medical Director, helping to define the clinical strategy and the clinical direction of the Trust and acting as second in command to the Medical Director. You will therefore need to be energetic, ambitious, ideally with board level experience.
You will be integral to clinical governance processes across the Trust, considering in particular patient safety, clinical risk, morbidity and mortality monitoring and learning from experience.
Main duties of the job
Working together with other EMAS clinical leads, you will have a focus on the emergency and urgent care aspects of service development, the broader Trust transformation strategy and delivery & take a lead role alongside the Medical Director in strengthening relationships and in working in partnership with integrated care systems. Ideally you will have experience of partnership or integrated and collaborative working.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of the Consultant Paramedic, Head of CARU & Trust Pharmacist and provide senior leadership and support to the rest of the Medical & Clinical Directorate.
As the Associate Medical Director will be required to deputise for the Medical Director in their absence and attend meeting on their behalf. You will also need to provide on call Strategic Medical Advisor cover on a rota basis.
With a varied portfolio you will also be involved in change programmes across EMAS. This role will be ideal for an aspiring Medical Director and the Medical Director will support your continued development and mentoring.

- Current and full professional registration with General Medical Council (GMC)
- Evidence of relevant continual professional development including relevant qualifications and or Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
- Formal management/ leadership qualification or willingness to work towards with relevant experience of leadership in an NHS or health care organisation.
Desirable
- Recognised module or qualification in Applied Research or Clinical Audit
- Formal mentoring and/or coaching qualification/accredited programme of study
- Recognised quality improvement training
